Singer Dimitris Mitropanos died in an Athens hospital on Tuesday, April 17, 2012 after suffering pulmonary edema caused by a heart attack. He was 64. Mitropanos was considered one of the top Greek Laiko singers, known for his smooth and distinct vocals.

He was born on April 2, 1948, in a village outside Trikala in Thessaly, and began working as a singer after moving to Athens in 1964.

Mitropanos worked with some of the best known Greek composers, such as Mikis Theodorakis, Stavros Xarhakos, Madra Mandicencio, Manos HadjidakisMarios Tokas and Thanos Mikroutsikos, and was one of the top performers of Greek popular music for over four decades.

He was loved by many Greeks worldwide and of all ages. He had many hits like Σ'αναζητώ στη Σαλονίκη (S'anazito sit Saloniki), Η Ρόζα (Roza), Tα Λαδάδικα (Ta Ladadika) and many more.
