John Stamatopoulos (John Stamos) was born in Cypress, California, where he and his sisters Janeen, and Alaina worked in their father's (Bill Stamos') restaurant up until their teens. John's paternal grandparents moved to the U.S. from the incredibly beautiful Greek island of Santorini.

In a Vanity Fair article titled 'John Stamos' Guide to Santorini Greece', Stamos had this to say:

"To get away from it all, I go to Santorini, Greece. One day I would love to retire there, own a restaurant, play music, eat, and make babies....I like to find real mom-and-pop restaurants. One of the beautiful things about some of the restaurants there is you get to go in the kitchen and pick out your own fish or meat. I like that. Sometimes I even stay in the kitchen to learn how to cook."

"My favorite best-kept secret about Santorini is...Personally, it’s my connection to my father and his heritage that he was so proud of. I know how important the values of his birthplace were to him, and I’m always looking to learn more about it and how to incorporate it in my life." - John Stamos in a Vanity Fair article titled 'John Stamos' Guide to Santorini Greece'.
